Carrying out My plan

Ever since I developed my GAME plan I have been looking for resources and searching information about my goals.
For my first goal, looking for technology tools to help students solve problems, I am currently reading Universal Design for Learning in Technology Integration for Meaningful Classroom Use, this has been a wonderful resource for me to understand how to individualize instruction and use technology to help students solve problems. "Central to these strategies is the use of digital media to provide students with flexibility as they meet the demands of learning goals".  (Cennamo, et al., 2009, p.123) Communication tolls and multimedia tools are definetly going to be incorporated into my classroom more next year to meet their needs.
My next goal was associated with learning my students and understand their needs, since I don't have a class right now I am planning on ways to get to know my students next year. One way is to learn about Howard Gardner's idea of multiple intelligence, on p.124 which explains the difference of students ways of learning and how those needs can be met with technology also found in chapter 5 of the course text. I feel that really learning about these tools and strategies will help me to reach both of my goals.

Shaina,
I think you will be very successful in meeting your goals if you explore Howard Gardner's idea of multiple intelligence, which explains the different ways students learn and how those needs can be met using technology. As Gardner states, "Any uniform approach to education-including a uniform approach to assessment-is bound to appeal to a minority and alienate or frustrate the rest" (Cennamo, Ross & Ertmer, 2009, p. 124). In other words, we can not teach down the middle of the road. I use the "True Colors" lesson, along with other activities from our Quality School training to evaluate which of the multiple intelligences my students possess. I find it VERY helpful when grouping students for collaboration activities and for creating various lessons to meet our grade level content expectations. Good luck! I am anxious to hear if you find any new teaching strategies that could be incorporated this coming fall.

Shaina,
Our texts in these last two classes have been super useful to our professional development, I agree. Using Gardner's Multiple Intelligences is also a valuable tool to creating collaborative lessons, and though it takes a lot of coordination and planning, I bet you'll get high success. I also think the use of technology can make it easier to incorporate almost all of the different intelligences in a lesson, making your workload a little more manageable.

Shaina-

How do you get to know your students when they first come to your class? Do you have access to your students’ state wide testing scores? In our district we have access to our current students’ information and all of the students we have taught for the last ten years. Having access to their testing data helps me to see what their strengths and weaknesses are before they ever enter my classroom. It is also nice to go and see how my past students are progressing after they leave my class.
